Week 2 Reflections

This week I learned about creating Wikis. Building the Wiki was a fun thing to do. I learned how to put videos on a Wiki page, which I never knew how to do. I also learned how to insert pictures in a Wiki page like the one above. When inserting the image, I learned how to adjust where the picture is located on the Wiki page. I learned a lot on how to create new pages and how to hyperlink websites that would be useful to use as an educator. Being able to create many pages to keep all the resources organized was a good thing to learn.

I also learned how to create an interactive game using PowerPoint.  I learned a lot when creating the game.  I didn't know that hyperlinks was the way to create an interactive game until I learned it in class.  Along with making it an interactive game means not being able to move on a mouse click, so I learned how to turn of the option of the slide moving on the mouse click.  I learned how to insert animation and sounds.   Putting images into the presentation was another helpful thing to learn.

One of the ISTE standards that was used this week was Model Digital-Age Work and Learning.  This standard was used by developing and making the presentation and Wiki.  These allowed me to take my background knowledge to create something in technology.  Also, the Wiki can help teachers stay in touch with people in the community because they would be able to see what is going on in the classroom.  Another ISTE standard that was used this week was Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity.  This standard was met because students can use these tools to solve problems and issues with these sources.  Also, the Wiki is a good use for people to work collaboratively and engage them in virtual environments.  The third ISTE standard used was Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility.  This standard is met because on both the Wiki and presentation resources are cited.  Also, I'm allowing them to use many technological tools that can help all students learn the best way possible for them.

I can see myself using both of these in the future.  I would love to create multiple PowerPoint presentations for students to use as an interactive game to learn a topic.  Also, I think using a Wiki would help me stay in contact with parents.  The Wiki could also be used for parents to see their progress of their kid by giving them the link to the Wiki.  I would also like to let the children explore using Wiki by allowing them to use it to work together on activities.
